According to various reports in the media Wigan's Ecuadorian star Antonio Valencia is on the brink of joining the red devils in a deal worth upto £17.5m.
According to the Daily Mirror Valencia cut short his holiday to fly to Manchester for a medical at the English Champions and his move will be completed within the week.
Real Madrid supposedly also had an offer on the table but the winger chose United's, preferring to stay in the UK and play for the English champions.
It would seem that most of the details had been agreed sometime ago as soon as it became clear Ronaldo was going to leave for Spain but United waited for the confirmation of the sale to make their move official.
The player will be the first of what is expected to be a busy summer in terms of signings for Sir Alex Ferguson as he looks to use the funds from Ronaldo's sale to bolster his team and strike force. Douglas Costa and Sergio Aguero are thought to be the main two targets of Fergie's.
