 At halftime the title race looked wide open as United appeared to be throwing away another game. But then inspired by the half time introduction of Tevez the key started being turned. Then the cool conversion by Ronaldo of a controversial penalty started a 22 minute goal rush which saw Rooney and Ronaldo grab a brace with Berbatov scrambling in the 5th goal to cap off a remarkable comeback.

Everton ended United's dream of a quintuple and with it the chances of winning their first F.A. Cup in 4 years on penalties. Cahill seemed to give the momentum to United missing his first penalty but then Berbatov and Ferdinand followed up with poor penalties to put Everton in the driving seat and they were all to happy to oblige in taking the opportunity slotting away their remaining penalties.
